Commiserations to our Senior team following their heartbreaking defeat in the Connacht Cup Quarter Final against Castlebar Celtic yesterday.
Fates conspired against the team but they ran the highly-fancied Mayo outfit very close and can be very proud of their superb performance that ultimately came up just, only just, short . Losing Michael Corrigan (broken leg) and Jake McCrann (pulled hamstring) to injury seriously hampered efforts and a red card for Lee McKillen (2 yellows) had Boyle further on the back-foot but a Sean Purcell goal looked like securing a famous win for Boyle until a very late equaliser took the tie into extra-time.With no further goals, the dreaded penalty shoot-out loomed large and the luck continued to go against the visitors with a 4-2 defeat in the lottery of penalties.
As difficult as it is to swallow, repeated performances of a similar nature in the remaining league games should see the SuperLeague title secured for the first time since 2001 - see how they bounce back with a local derby at home to Aughanagh Celtic on Saturday 29th March, kick-off at 7.30pm. Best wishes to Gerry and the lads.
