Boyle Celtic / Euro 2012 fundraiser

Boyle Celtic are entering into the Euro 2012 spirit and looking at a novel fundraiser for the Club.

At various outlets and pubs around town, you will find cards for Ireland’s three group matches in Euro 2012. For €2, simply choose the minute you think the first goal of the match will be scored – or select 0-0 if available – and if you are correct, you will win 50% of the prizepool for that card. If the card is not fully completed and the time of the goal was not bought, the cardholder will hold a draw for all entrants of that card and the winner will receive the 50% prize.

As always, many thanks for your support which is very much appreciated – come on the Boys in Green!!

Final heartache - again

Boyle Celtic’s season came to a conclusion on Sunday in the searing heat of the Ray MacSharry complex in Sligo when they took on newly crowned league champions City Utd in the Glasshouse Champions Cup Final.

Try as they might, and they played some fantastic football, they just couldn’t make the breakthrough and late in the second half were undone by two goals as City ran out 2-0 winners.

The Boyle panel might be thinking they are glad to see the back of the season being league runners-up and losing two cup finals but that shouldn’t detract from what has been a truly great season and augurs well for the coming seasons.

Owen O’Donohoe is standing aside from the managerial role after a monumental effort and anyone with any designs on taking over should contact the committee – but well done, Owen - your efforts are much appreciated.

Owen clinches final spot

Boyle Celtic made their second final in as many weeks last night when they knocked Calry Bohs out of the Glasshouse Champions Cup after a tense encounter.

Ninety minutes saw the match goalless and so into extra-time, not for the first time this season. Owen O'Donohoe settled the tie for Boyle to avoid the dreaded penalties and they now play City Utd, the new league champions, in the Final on Sunday 27th May, kicking off in the Ray McSharry Complex in Sligo at 3pm.

Boyle Celtic turned on the style last night as they ruthlessly despatched Cartron Utd on the astro-turf in Cleveragh. Notching 5 goals with Cartron adding a consolation, Boyle progress to the semi-final against Calry Bohs to be played on Saturday.

Cup Final Heartbreak

There was Cup Final heartbreak last night for Boyle Celtic when they lost on penalties to Carbury FC in the 12th Robert Cawley Memorial Cup Final at the Ray McSharry Complex in Sligo.

From the off, Boyle were on top but couldn't get past the stubborn Carbury defence whilst Carbury had their moments and Kyle Suffin had to be at his best to keep his goal intact midway through the first half. With both defences on top, the first half finished scoreless.

Into the second half and Owen O'Donohoe came on to replace James Carty just before the hour mark. His introduction added impetus to the Boyle attacking play but, try as they might, they just couldn't find the net, the Carbury keeper playing a fine match. After 90 minutes, neither team had dented the scoreline and so to extra time.

Boyle continued on top in extra time but continued to be thwarted at every turn and when the final whistle went, the 0-0 scoreline meant we were headed for the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Unfortunately, the Boyle lads came out second best losing the shoot-out 4-2 but they can be mighty proud of their fine play during this cup run – perhaps their luck will change in the Champions Cup where they take on Cartron Utd in the quarter-final on Thursday 17th, k.o. 6.45pm, at the Cleveragh Astroturf facility.

Thursday 10 May 2012

The Robert Cawley Memorial Cup Final has been fixed for tomorrow night, Friday 11th May, kicking off at 8pm in McSharry Park, Sligo.

Opponents are arch-nemisis Carbury FC so the very best of luck to Owen and the lads as they seek to bring silverware back to Celtic Park - any support would be very welcome and most appreciated.

Cup Final Fever

Whilst you are probably aware of some kind of Cup Final going on over in London, make a note for your diaries that our first team are also to play in a Cup Final - the Robert Cawley Memorial Cup, date and venue to be confirmed.

The squad travelled to Ballymote Celtic with a tough ask on their hands but a goal from Luka Roddy was enough to deflate the home team and send Boyle through to the final where they will take on Carbury FC.

Well done, lads - get the suits ironed...

Tough luck on Reserves

Kevin Mullen's Reserves put on a mighty show against Calry Bohs in the semi-final of the McSharry Foley Cup and were knocked out only after the lottery of penalties.

The match went into extra time, 90 minutes having finished 1-1, Boyle's goal coming from the boot of Colm Rushe. The extra 30 minutes couldn't separate the two teams and so to the dreaded shoot-out where Boyle just fell short, losing 4-2.

Bad luck lads, but, once again, well done for a great performance.

Reserves in Cup Action tonight

Boyle Celtic Reserves travel to Calry Bohs TONIGHT, Wednesday 2nd May, to play the semi-final of the McSharry Foley Cup, with kick-off at 7pm. In what is sure to be a tough encounter, Boyle will need any support they can get as they strive to reach the final - best of luck to Kevin and the lads.

Title Dreams are over

The senior team travelled to Carbury FC last Sunday with high hopes of re-claiming the league leadership and putting all the pressure back on City Utd. Unfortunately, things didn't work out for the lads and with a missed penalty and a red card, they succumbed 4-1, thus finishing as runners-up and handing the title to City.

Whilst the result is a disappointment, the lads should reflect with pride on a great season and continuing improvement. Over the last four seasons, they have finished 4th, 3rd, 3rd again and now runners-up - and they still have two cups to play for this season, with a Robert Cawley Memorial Cup semi-final against Ballymote Celtic, in Ballymote, this Friday at 7.30pm next up.

Well done to all involved with the panel, but especially Owen O'Donohoe who has continued to play whilst also managing and training the lads - a very special and much-appreciated effort from Owen.
