Vital game in Title run

The SuperLeague title has boiled down to two matches with reigning champions, Carbury FC, involved in both.

Following their win over Cliffoney Celtic last weekend, City Utd have assumed pole position in the title race with a one-point lead over Boyle Celtic. City and Boyle both have one match left and both are to play Carbury on Carbury's home patch.

Boyle are first up this Sunday, 29th, with kick-off at 11am. A draw would see them back on top on goal difference but City would then only need a draw the following Sunday when they face Carbury. A win for Boyle would see them 2 points clear and City would then also need a win to take the title.

As the excitement mounts, all support for Boyle would be greatly appreciated on Sunday morning.

U12s narrowly lose League Quarter-Final

Eddie Conroy's U12s travelled to Ballisodare last night to tackle Ballisodare Utd in the Dial-A-Bus U12 league quarter-final.

Despite a strong showing from Eddie's charges, putting on a good performance and battling hard, they just fell short going down 2-1. The youngsters can hold their heads high having played some good stuff this season and, under Eddie's continuing tutelage, should go further next season.

Bad luck to Eddie and the lads but well done on a strong showing this season.

U13s fail to make plate final

Commiserations to Colin and our U13 squad who were beaten by Merville Utd in their U13 plate semi-final, played at Merville, last Tuesday.

Boyle were trailing by just one goal at half-time, but into the second half and the home team went through the gears and ruthlessly despatched our lads to convincingly reach the plate final. A good performance by the youngsters, it was a shame they didn't make the final after a hard-working season that has been invaluable in their footballing education.

Cup Fever

The First team play the quarter-final of the Robert Cawley Memorial Cup tonight, Wednesday 18th, kicking off against Coolera Rovers in Boyle at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, our Reserves play Chaffpool Utd in the quarter-final of the McSharry-Foley Cup with kick-off at 7pm. This home fixture for Boyle is being played on Aughanagh Celtic's pitch - many thanks to Aughanagh for hosting us.

U14s fall short in League

Boyle Celtic U14s were in league semi-final action last night in Ballisodare to take on the undefeated league-toppers.

The lads have put a good season together, taking some notable scalps in the SFAI and Connacht Cups as well as finishing 4th in their league, thus qualifying for the semi-finals. In the previous league match, played in Boyle, Ballisodare ran out 7-4 winners having raced into a 5-1 lead, only to be pegged back to 5-4, before a breakaway goal and a highly contentious last-minute goal saw the visitors through.

As such, hopes were high when the lads travelled to Ballisodare but these hopes came undone on a very wet surface when the home team swept into a 2-0 lead. Liam Casey pulled one back but Ballisodare turned on the style and in very clinical fashion put the Boyle Celtic team away.

Heads didn't drop and Boyle kept battling valiantly and could, perhaps should, have scored a couple more but it was not to be. The panel have the making of a very good squad, so hopefully this experience will stand them in good stead in the future - well done to all 20 lads who have togged out for the U14s at some stage over the season.

Title tilt still on track

Boyle Celtic’s SuperLeague title chances remain very strong after they defeated local rivals Aughanagh Celtic 3-1 on Saturday evening – two goals from Lee McKillen and one from Michael Corrigan doing the damage with ex-Boyle Celtic man Paul McTiernan notching for the visitors.

The lads have one league match left to play, away to Carbury on Sunday 29th, and are two points clear of City Utd who have two games left - they play Cliffoney Celtic this weekend so could go top if they win and they play their final match, against Carbury, on Sunday 6th.

Epic match in U11 season finale

Our 11s finished their season in style last night in a truly dramatic match against Gurteen Celtic.

Gurteen stormed into a 2nil lead by half time and were looking favourites to win the play-off but a spirited comeback from the Boyle lads levelled the match 2-2 at full time. Extra time couldn't find a winner and so onto the dreaded penalty shoot-out!

Boyle came through 3-1 so very well done to them but praise must also go to Gurteen as both teams produced a great match which ended up being settled by the lottery of penalties.

U11s Thursday 12th - change to kick-off time

Geoff Henry's U11s play their final game of the season with a match against Gurteen Celtic TONIGHT, Thursday 12th, in Boyle.

Please note the previously advertised kick-off has been changed and kick-off is now at 7.15pm.

There is a presentation after the match - well done to Geoff, Frank and the whole squad after their first season in league action for Boyle Celtic.

Title Chase hots up

Many congratulations to our first team who remain top of the SuperLeague with only two games left.

They defeated Yeats Utd 2-1 on Good Friday, the goals coming from Luka Roddy and Aaron Calpin in a hard-fought contest. Next up, this Sunday (15th), are near-neighbours Aughanagh Celtic in Boyle at 11am.

Main challengers are City Utd who are two points shy of Boyle but have three games left to play. Reigning champions Carbury cannot be entirely ruled out either, being 16 points less than Boyle, they have six games left which include both Boyle and City so, mathematically, could still sneak it.

That means Sunday's derby against Aughanagh is absolutely pivotal to the title chase - victory would eliminate Carbury from the chase - all support for the lads would be greatly appreciated as they chase the Club's first SuperLeague title for 10 years.

Reserves complete their league programme

Kevin Mullen's Reserves squad have now completed their league programme - their last match seeing them go down 1-0 to Real Tubber on Good Friday.

They currently sit in 5th position in the Premier League which has still to be completed. Come what may, following on from promotion last season and challenging at the top of the Premier League all this season, the lads have put in a very good show and should be proud of their endeavours.

Well done to Dermot Beggan who finished with 22 league goals and, at this stage, looks destined to be the league's top scorer.

Finally, a very well done to Kevin who has done a fantastic job over the last couple of seasons.

Well done Boyle Celtic U16s

Our U16s, under the tutelage of Joe Magee and Frank Colohan, have now completed their league season.

They battled gamely and were very unlucky to lose a spot in the play-offs because of fixture problems. As a result, they qualified for the Plate competition and, in their semi-final, came up just short against near-neighbours Carrick Town.

Well done to Joe, Frank and all the squad....

Good Friday action

Please come along and support Boyle Celtic on Good Friday evening as they take on Yeats Utd in their continuing quest for the SuperLeague title. Boyle remain top of the league, where they have been for some time now, and are on the final run-in with all to play for. Following a convincing 4-1 win last time out against the reigning champions, another victory would see the winning line come that much closer. Kick-off is at 6pm in Celtic Park – all support is greatly appreciated!

Our Reserves are also in action, also at 6pm, when they tackle Real Tubber in Tubbercurry in the Sligo Pallets Premier League - again, all support is greatly appreciated by Kevin and the lads.

Boyle Celtic 4 Carbury FC 1

Boyle Celtic produced a brilliant team performance in beating the reigning Sligo/Leitrim League Champions Carbury FC by 4 goals to 1.

Two first half goals from Aaron Calpin and Michael Corrigan set them on their way and with Lee McKillen dominating midfield and Luka Roddy a constant threat upfront, Celtic were always in control of the game. The win was secured with 15 minutes remaining when Corrigan got his second and Dessie Carlos added the fourth.

This great win brings Boyle Celtic a step closer to their first title in 10 years. Celtic need to win their 3 remaining games and hope that City Utd slip up in one of their 5 games to capture the league title.
