U14s fall short in League

Boyle Celtic U14s were in league semi-final action last night in Ballisodare to take on the undefeated league-toppers.

The lads have put a good season together, taking some notable scalps in the SFAI and Connacht Cups as well as finishing 4th in their league, thus qualifying for the semi-finals. In the previous league match, played in Boyle, Ballisodare ran out 7-4 winners having raced into a 5-1 lead, only to be pegged back to 5-4, before a breakaway goal and a highly contentious last-minute goal saw the visitors through.

As such, hopes were high when the lads travelled to Ballisodare but these hopes came undone on a very wet surface when the home team swept into a 2-0 lead. Liam Casey pulled one back but Ballisodare turned on the style and in very clinical fashion put the Boyle Celtic team away.

Heads didn't drop and Boyle kept battling valiantly and could, perhaps should, have scored a couple more but it was not to be. The panel have the making of a very good squad, so hopefully this experience will stand them in good stead in the future - well done to all 20 lads who have togged out for the U14s at some stage over the season.
