Warning re Balls in the far field

To all managers, coaches & players,

Please note that the field behind the far goal has been fenced with barbed wire as our neighbour has cattle in that field. He kindly left a gap in the wire fence for us to access the field for any stray balls that get kicked in there - the access point on our side is where the steps are, marked by a traffic cone.

We have determined that it is too dangerous from both a fence and cattle point-of-view for our underage players to go into the field for stray balls and ask that only adults go to collect balls from now on - managers / coaches / supporters / senior players.

We also ask youth managers to let their opposite numbers know of the dangers of the field and fence and suggest that our managers retrieve all stray balls, including those belonging to the opposition.

Huge Congrats to Brian McCrann

Huge congratulations to Brian McCrann who has been selected in the final 20man squad for the Republic of Ireland Junior international team which will take part in the Umbro Quadrangular Trophy in Limerick, running from 3rd to 5th October

Recent trials were held in Sligo and Limerick and an initial panel of 80 has been whittled down to the final 20 - made up of 9 players from Leinster, 7 from Munster, 2 from Ulster and two from Connacht. These include 4 players from current FAI Junior Cup holders Sheriff YC and 3 from runners-up Kilbarrack United.

With three matches in three days, all 20 players will be utilised:-

Thursday, October 3
Scotland v Rep. of Ireland - Pike Rovers Complex (3pm)

Friday, October 4
Rep. of Ireland v Isle of Man - Janesboro (1pm)

Saturday, October 5
Northern Ireland v Rep. of Ireland - Fairgreen (3pm)

As one of only two from Connacht to make the final grade, this is a fantastic achievement by Brian and we send all best wishes to him, and the squad, for the tournament.

What really happened to Michael McHale Snr....

Having been more than a little concerned as to what may have led to Mick McHale Snr's tumble on the Croagh Patrick challenge, we engaged the services of NASA and a few other satellite installations and, having gone through thousands of photoframes, have finally arrived at the moment when Snr spilled...no wonder he tumbled!!

Boyle Celtic to Croagh Patrick Challenge - success

The inaugural Boyle Celtic to Croke Patrick Challenge took place last Saturday when friends of Boyle Celtic cycled approximately 100km from Celtic Park to the base of Croke Patrick and then climbed the revered mountain, all in one day!

Everyone came back in one piece, albeit with sore legs and a couple of sore knees and hands – you can probably work out why!!! Photographic evidence of Mick McHale snr's spill to follow which will clarify exactly why the incident took place...

The Club offers many thanks to all those who suffered on the way over and up and all those who kindly sponsored the heroic efforts of the cyclists / climbers.

Special thanks go to:-
Dessie McLoughlin and Gerry Emmett for organising the whole event
Enda Madden, Gavin Brennan, Conor Nerney, Brian Supple & Aileen Madden for marshalling and controlling the cycle run
Sandra McCrann, Siobhan Harrington, Phil Emmett & Margaret McLoughlin for the superb food that kept the legs pumping
Padraig Langan, Gabriel Dwyer & Feargail Quinn for the lorry for transporting our bikes home
Paula & Mickey Cull (Drumderrig Nursing Home) who provided the bus transport to accompany us over and bring us all back
Campbells Bar (The Fitzpatrick Family, Forest View) for the much-needed soup and sandwiches after “it” was all over
Sean O’Dowd (RealBoyle) for the publicity
The Railway Bar (Sharyn, Collette & Peter) for the lovely food that greeted us on our return to Boyle.

As the song says, let’s do it all again – but maybe not just yet!!
