Kick-Start 1 course

FAI KICK START 1 COACH EDUCATION COURSE

On 4th February the Football Association of Ireland will be holding a Kick Start 1 coaching course ...

The course is geared to provide coaches with the skills and tools needed to improve children of the ages 6-9 with the emphasis on skill development, coordination and small sided games. The course will take place from 9.30am-5pm on Saturday 4th Feb in the Sligo Showgrounds. Cost of the course is 45 euro which must be paid for in advance .

50 % funding is available from the Sligo sports partnership for all coaches involved in coaching teams in the Sligo/Leitrim schoolboy and Junior league. Contact must be made with the sports partnership prior to beginning of the course, contact for Sligo sports partnership is 071-9161511. The cost of the course is 45 euro. No, your eyes have not deceived you - Boyle Celtic will play the reigning, back-to-back FAI Cup holders in Celtic Park on Saturday 28th January, kick-off 6pm.

This is a pre-season friendly for the Bit o' Red before they launch their assault on the 2012 Airtricity Premier League. Sligo's manager, Paul Cook, has made a significant number of new signings and will be looking to get match-fitness for all of them.

This is a great coup for Boyle Celtic FC and we are delighted and proud to host our near neighbour. On what is sure to be a great occasion, and match, attendance for adults is €5, with no charge for children under 16.

Sitting proud

Boyle Celtic are very proud today with both of our senior teams sitting proudly atop their respective leagues.

The first team went top of the BestWestern Sligo Southern Hotel SuperLeague following their 3nil win at home to Manor Rangers last Saturday night, the goals coming from Michael Corrigan, Conor McPadden and Lee McKillen.

The Reserves stayed top of the Sligo Pallets Premier League following a 3-1 victory away to Dromore Villa, league top-scorer Dermot Beggan adding a brace to bring his season's tally to 17, with Jake McCrann notching the third.

Brilliant stuff from all involved as we prepare to welcome the Bit o' Red on Saturday 28th January.

Boyle Celtic Matches - 15/18 October

Whilst there are no Senior matches on this week (all senior fixtures cancelled to allow for those who follow Sligo Rovers to attend the FAI Cup semi-final against Bohs - Best of Luck to the Bit o' Red), there are still plenty of home matches for the Boyle Celtic supporters to take in....

On Saturday 15th, our U12s are in league action at 11am against Coolaney Utd and that is immediately followed by the U14s in the next round of the SFAI Cup. Following their impressive victory against Mervue Utd last time out, they are up against Galway opposition again, Corrib Rangers, in what is sure to be an attractive tie.

Local derbies are the order of the day for Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th as the U14s take on Arrow Harps in the league on Monday at 7pm and Tuesday sees the U12s in league action against Gurteen Celtic at 7pm.

Our U18s have an away Connacht Cup tie at 11am on Saturday 15th at Calry Bohs.

The word ‘legend’ is bandied about all too easily these days, but in the case of Kieran "Bomber" Spellman and Boyle Celtic FC, it strictly applies. Kieran has served the club for nearly 25 years, fulfilling every role from player to chairman, and stepped down as Chairman at the recent AGM. Words cannot express the gratitude from everyone in the Club for all he has done and achieved over the years. New Season - 2011/12

The new season, 2011/12, has finally arrived and we start with an U16 league match away to Carrick Town on Saturday 14th August, kick-off at 11am.

Things are very different this season with a new structure at underage, the reserves in a new division, a new first team manager and a new chairman. Best of luck to everybody involved!

There is a meeting in the Clubhouse tonight, Monday 8th Aug, at 8pm for all youth team management teams to discuss the forthcoming season for our various underage teams - ensuring managers have sufficient equipment - footballs, first aid kits etc.

We will also be checking existing football kits - please bring along any kits you may have.

Youth Registration Night

The Youth Registration Night takes place tonight, Wednesday 20th, from 7.30pm in the Clubhouse. Registration will be based on the year of birth and is open to all players born 1993 to 2002 inclusive.

Registration costs €50 / player or €75 for a family of two or more. There is also an option to pre-pay the training fees for the full season.

If you miss the registration night, please contact your manager from last season as soon as possible to express your intent to play in the new season. We need to know numbers at each age-group as soon as possible so that we can enter the appropriate number of teams.

This season there is a change to qualifying ages, falling in line with the UEFA/FAI directive, and we have the option to enter teams at:-

U11 / U12 / U13 / U14 / U15 / U16 / U17 / U18 / U19

Entry will be, first and foremost, based on the number of players registering at each age group and will then be based on sufficient teams entering from the clubs in the Sligo/Leitrim league area.

The usual suspects were all to the fore on Day 1 of the tournament. Reigning champions Scanlons were impressive and made short work of their opposition. The Moylurg look very strong and are the new tournament favourites. The legends excelled themselves as usual and somehow scraped a draw against Trojan. Think "The Alamo".
Magee Motors have a good footballing side and may spring a surprise yet on the big 2.

UnderAge Registration Night

UnderAge registration takes place on Wednesday 20th July at 7.30pm in the Clubhouse for all players born in 1993 right up to and including 2002.

Registration will be taken based on the year the player was born - we will then see what options we have for entering teams as this year, with the Age Re-Alignment (a UEFA / FAI directive) being rolled-out, the Sligo / Leitrim Youth Schoolboys and Girls League is looking to hold league competition at every age level from U11 right through to U19. This will be determined by the numbers of players available in each Club and, from there, the number of Clubs who enter a team in each League.

Any queries in relation to the new age policy can be explained at registration.

Boyle Celtic AGM

The Boyle Celtic AGM was held on Friday 1st July in the Clubhouse with a good attendance, in particular it was heartening to see some of the first team squad in attendance.

Kieran Spellman stepped down as Chairman after 10 years in the role for a very well-deserved break. We can never thank Kieran enough for the time and effort he put into Boyle Celtic during his tenure as Chairman and his years on the committe before that. As the new Chairman, Paddy McLoughlin, said in his acceptance speech, if he can achieve half as much for Boyle Celtic as Kieran did, he will be more than satisfied.

The Secretary's and Treasurer's reports were read out by Richard Kennedy and Eddie Conroy respectively. Motions to elect Paddy McLoughlin as Chairman and re-elect the Secretary, Treasurer and PRO were also passed unopposed.

Two items arising out of the AGM are:-
The need to have a representative from each squad, not necessarily the same one all the time, attend future committee meetings to spread the word of what is happening in the Club
To appoint a Youth Development Officer to ensure our U16 / U18 players can progress as seamlessly as possible into the Senior ranks, be it through the Reserves or Senior teams.

Our Senior team are currently top of the SuperLeague – by one point over City Utd, who have a game in hand, and two points over Carbury FC who have three games in hand. However, Boyle have just two games left to play and they are against City Utd and Carbury so it’s all to play for! Cup fever is back this Sunday – our Senior team, on the back of a 1-0 triumph over Ballymote in the semi-final last Sunday, are playing the Final of the Robert Cawley Memorial Cup this Sunday (15th May) at 3pm in McSharry Park, Sligo against their arch-rivals in the league, City Utd. They were overcome 3-1 by Strand Celtic Reserves, many congrats to them, with Colm Rushe notching Boyle’s strike. This Sunday, 8th May, is all about the Cup - or two cups to be precise!

Our Reserves, under the tutelage of newly-married Kevin Mullen, have made the final of the Frank Kennedy Memorial Cup where they will meet Strand Celtic Reserves at 3pm in the Ray McSharry complex, Sligo. Your support for the lads would be very welcome and would round off an impressive first season at the helm for Kevin which has also seen the lads gain promotion to the Premier League.

Earlier, at 11am, the first team take on Ballymote Celtic at home in the semi-final of the Robert Cawley Memorial Cup. Taking a break from league action, the lads are hoping to sign off Sean Kerin's reign in style by bringing him some much-deserved silverware. Again, your support would be very welcome.

Kevin Mullen, our successful Reserves team manager, has the most important match of his life next week when he marries Roisin Young in foreign climes. Many congratulations to them and everyone at the Club offers our very best wishes for a long and happy future together.

On signing this contract, Kevin has paid the ultimate price and foregoes the Frank Kennedy Memorial Cup Final that his team have now qualified for - he will be on a sunny beach with his bride by his side as the lads try to win Kevin's first senior cup!!

Home Farm visit

Home Farm FC's U15s were staying in the area and were keen to arrange a friendly against an underage Boyle Celtic team. Combining players from our U18s/U16s/U14s, we were delighted to field a strong panel and more than delighted with the outcome - a 4nil victory for Boyle over the Dublin team.

Well done to Christy Grehan for organising the playing side of things and many thanks to Sandra McCrann who played a pivotal role in organising the friendly and arranging the fantastic nibbles for after the match.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of John Dennedy who passed away suddenly over the weekend. A very good friend and supporter of Boyle Celtic, John was involved for a long time bringing teams to away matches, cheering and encouraging from the sidelines and on occasion taking the flag. He was also a manager of one of our teams and greatly endeared himself to all who met him and he will be sadly missed. May he rest in peace. There will be a minute's silence for John before the Connacht Cup Quarter-Final against Athenry this Sunday (10th Apr) at 2pm.

Legends triumph in Europe

Well done to Boyle Celtic Legends who travelled to Berlin last weekend to take on the might of SC Berliner. In freezing conditions, the Boyle veterans acquitted themselves admirably and kept a clean sheet whilst also notching 6 goals, Boyle's first victory in Europe since the heady days of the late 80s. Special mention must go to our travelling fan, Brendan Lynch, who kept himself warm on the touchline whilst wearing all the players' coats - that's how cold it was!!

Kick Start Level 1 course - Sligo

For anyone interested in coaching / managing a Boyle Celtic team, there is a course in Sligo this weekend that will be a great way to make a start to a coaching career and could be the first step on the ladder to replacing Giovanni Trappatoni!!

Kick Start Level 1

On 4th / 5th February 2011, the Football Association of Ireland will be holding a Kick Start 1 coaching course.

The course is geared to provide coaches with the skills and tools needed to improve children of the ages 6-9 with the emphasis on skill and movement development. The course will include
a theory section that will take place in the Southern Hotel from 7pm to 10pm on Friday 4th Feb and practical sessions that will take place at the Sligo Ursaline secondary school from 10am to 3pm approx on Saturday 5th Feb. The cost of the course is €45 which must be paid for in advance.

50% funding is available from the Sligo sports partnership for all coaches involved in coaching teams in the Sligo/Leitrim schoolboy and Junior league. Contact must be made with the Sports Partnership prior to the start of the course, contact no. for Sligo Sports Partnership is 071-9161511. The cost of the course is €45. All bookings must be made through the FAI Development officer (Ryan Casey) first, please book early to avoid disappointment by emailing Ryan at ryan.casey@fai.ie.

Were you there? Did you see last night's thrilling Connacht Cup match when Boyle Celtic and NUIG needed extra time after finishing level at 2-2 after 90 minutes. Boyle came through with two goals in extra time to win out 4-2 in the end but a cracking game for all who were there.
